—Founder, Upwind Strategies
After working advising small businesses for five years, Alek launched Upwind Strategies in 2015 with the mission of providing deeper and more relatable services to small businesses: the anti-business-school services firm.
Alek is a native New Yorker and has twin passions for building things and helping people. To occupy him as a toddler, his parents gave him a box of metal gears and bolts to play with at the dinner table. By the time he graduated from high school he had completed CAD drawings for a turbofan jet engine and developed a homemade multi-staging system for model rockets. While nurturing his passion for design, Alek also spent his childhood giving back. Throughout high school he volunteered in home building for Habitat for Humanity in Newburgh, NY. As an adult, Alek realized a pathway towards merging his passions when he began working for the NYS Small Business Development Center. Here he could help all the people behind a company and dive into the exciting intricacies of making entrepreneurial projects a reality. Since then, Alek has logged more than 11,000 hours working with small businesses and has been recognized as one of the top drivers of economic development in the country.
Before he turned 18, Alek had already been in five bands, playing piano, drums, and the violin.
An avid outdoorsman, Alek enjoys hiking, skiing, and biking.
